Have you ever wondered which seat is the safest on airplane if it crashes ?
#statistics #datascience #facts #aeroplane #survival #data #aircraft
I hope no one faces such situation but based on data i am stating some facts which can help you to decide which seats to book next time, having more chances of survival and less fatal.
Do you know that Passengers near the tail of a plane were about 40 percent more likely to survive a crash than those in the front and the interesting fact is Business class and First class is in the front of the plane , so actually you are paying more for the seats where your chances of survival is less in case of crash and the people in economy class have more chances of survival.
Survival Rate: Seats in the back of the plane behind the trailing edge of the wing, had a 69 percent survival rate, while seats over the wing and in coach had a 56 percent survival rate. The front 15 percent of seats had a 49 percent survival rate.
Mortality Rate: The seats in the rear third of the aircraft had a lower fatality rate (32 percent) than seats in the over-wing (39 percent) or front (38 percent) thirds of the plane.
But now you don’t have to worry much as such crashes are very rare infact It is estimated that the odds of dying in a plane crash are 1 in 9,821. For a better perspective, that is 1 fatal accident per 16 million flights. Whereas the odds of dying in a car crash are approximately 1 in 114.
Note: These facts are based on data of commercial plane crash in the U.S. since 1971 that had both survivors and fatalities and for which a detailed seating chart was accessible
